On July 8th 2016 in Lancaster, Professor Jem Bendell will present the findings of his research for the United Nations on the future of "special economic zones". Such zones have been a cornerstone of the UK Government's economic strategy since 2012, and Cumbria launched its first zone in 2016 at Kingmoor Park outside Carlisle.
- What can be learned from the experience of thousands of zones worldwide?
- What are the latest approaches to the strategic management of zones?
- How do we avoid the multiple failures of past zones to enable sustainable economic development?
You can download the report here (pdf). Professor Bendell wrote an article for the World Economic Forum which summarises the arguments in the UN report.
